Lone Worker Protection

Employee safety is becoming a more prominent demand, particularly for staff working alone or unsupervised. Employers are required to have systems in place to keep in touch with lone workers and respond to any incident.

According to research conducted by Peoplesafe, 1 in 5 occupational drivers have been attacked or threatened by members of the public. Most drivers are relying on common sense to stay safe e.g. locking doors, being aware of surroundings, varying routines and keeping in touch with people.

The Peoplesafe personal safety service operates 24/7 supported by a dedicated Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) staffed with highly-trained experts at handling SOS alarms. Through connected devices and apps, users can press the SOS button and have direct access to the ARC where the alarm is answered in 3 seconds, on average.

Common driver safety technology such as dashcams are passive during an incident collecting information and data that can be acted upon later. A personal safety service can be used both proactively, if the user feels unsafe, as well as reactively when an incident is actually in progress.

In addition, the device or smartphone is not fixed inside the vehicle and can extend the protection of the user outside the vehicle where incidents such as slips, trips or falls can occur.

Our Solution

Using Peoplesafe allows workers to get the fastest possible response when needed because the Alarm Controllers in the ARC have immediate access to the key information needed to respond to any alarm:

• Who is raising the alarm
• What is happening
• Where the incident is happening

This information, combined with extensive training, will allow the Alarm Controller to verify the alarm and escalate it accordingly.

Peoplesafe’s Alarm Controllers have access to dedicated escalation contacts, a national security response service, 999 control centres, and if the incident is life-threatening, can use a Unique Reference Number (URN) to bypass 999 for immediate dispatch of police officers to the incident. This reduces the time it takes to get vital support to the user.
